This May 5-13 we’re calling on New Zealanders to demand that Westpac Bank does the right thing for climate justice:
Rule out funding our region’s biggest climate crime, Adani’s Carmichael Coal Mine Project!
It’s simple. We need to keep fossil fuels in the ground to avert a climate crisis.
This massive hole in the ground will be the biggest coal mine in Australasia’s history, and one of the single greatest threats to a safe climate for all of us.
Our brothers and sisters in Australia are fighting this and they need our help from across the ditch. The Adani Carmichael Coal Mine is a direct threat to the the Wangan and Jagalingou peoples’ ancestral lands. Acting to stop the mine serves as an opportunity to protect indigenous rights and to help create a safe climate for us all.
Westpac has the power to help make or break this project.
The stakes have never been higher — our changing climate is leading to ever more dangerous extremes. Droughts, heatwaves, fires and storms are causing more deaths. An unpredictable climate damages people’s livelihoods, from farmers losing crops to seasonal workers who rely on snow or sunshine.
This May, we’re coming together right across Aotearoa and Australia to escalate our campaign for a safe climate future. It’s time for Westpac to take the moral high ground and refuse to fund disaster.
